das freut mich sehr, daß Du Dich so gut auskennst. Endlich habe ich jemandem gefunden, der meine Fragen beantworten kann. Wie würdest Du denn die folgenden Artikel aus Pubmed kommentieren? Es sind nur die aktuellsten. Zu dem Thema finden sich Artikel über 43 Seiten.
Du weißt sicher auch, daß die Wirkung von Antiepileptika getestet wird, indem man den Versuchstieren bzw. den Zellen in vitro Magnesium entzieht. Auf diese Weise bringt man sie zum Krampfen. Wie ist das zu beurteilen?
Ich bin sehr gespannt.

Plasma magnesium and calcium levels in children with epilepsy in lagos.

BACKGROUND: Magnesium and calcium have been found to have increasing roles in the patho-physiology of epilepsy. Hypomagnesaemia and hypocalcaemia cause hyper-exitability of neurons and have been associated strongly with seizures in adults and children. OBJECTIVES: To determine if hypomagnesaemia or hypocalcaemia is present in Nigerian children with epilepsy and to determine the relationship between serum magnesium and calcium levels and frequency and control of epilepsy. DESIGN: A prospective case control study at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. PATIENTS AND METHODS: 45 children with epilepsy and 45 controls were recruited from the paediatric neurology unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital. Serum magnesium and calcium were measured by spectrophotometric methods. RESULTS: Serum magnesium and calcium was significantly lower in the patients compared to the controls; Magnesium - 0.98 (0.0005) Vs 1.2 (0.04) mmol/L, p< 0.0001 and Calcium - 2.29 (0.04) Vs 2.3 (0.02) mmol/L, p<0.05 respectively. No significant differences were noted in the plasma phosphorus and albumin concentrations. CONCLUSION: Magnesium and calcium levels are lower in the epileptic children compared to the controls during the seizure-free periods. More studies are needed to evaluate these electrolytes during seizures and the effect of the different anticonvulsant drugs on these electrolytes.

OBJECTIVE: Prior studies have been equivocal about whether or not serum levels of the divalent ions calcium and magnesium are altered during different types of seizures. Magnesium is a potential modulator of seizure activity because of its ability to antagonize the excitatory calcium influx through the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor. We hypothesize that serum ionized levels of calcium (Ca(2+)) and magnesium (Mg(2+)) would be altered significantly during certain types of seizures. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A convenience sample of seizure patients presenting to an emergency department (ED) were enrolled in this prospective study. Novel ion-selective electrodes were used to measure Ca(2+) and Mg(2+). Data were reported as mean values+/-standard deviations. Group comparisons were analyzed by ANOVA with post-hoc testing using the Bonferroni, or the Fisher exact test, where appropriate, alpha = 0.05 (two-tailed). RESULTS: Forty-nine patients with seizure and 32 healthy racially matched controls were included in the study. Seizure patients had a significantly (p<0.001) lower mean Mg(2+), but not total serum Mg and a significantly (p<0.001) higher Ca(2+)/Mg(2+) ratio than that in controls. CONCLUSIONS: We were able to show significantly lower Mg(2+) and higher ionized Ca(2+)/Mg(2+) ratios in seizure patients compared with a racially matched control group.

Might calcium disorders cause or contribute to myoclonic seizures in epileptics?

Although epilepsy is not rare, many epileptic conditions are considered to be idiopathic and the related seizures of unknown origin. It does appear that different types of seizures are caused by differing mechanisms. This paper discusses scattered case reports involving problems with calcium metabolism and the thyroid, and/or the parathyroid glands concurrent with seizures that support the position that calcium control mechanisms may have been involved in causing seizures in those patients. This paper hypothesizes that calcium levels can cause, or at least contribute to myoclonic (jerk) seizures, as well as to possibly infantile spasms. As these conditions are difficult to treat medically, this paper suggests that nutritional interventions, such as supplemental calcium, magnesium and/or vitamin D, might well be considered as an option as a first-line treatment in those with these types of epileptic disorders. The nutritional recommendations also would apply for those who have seizures concurrent with Down syndrome.

Kennst Du zum Beispiel die Studien und Auswirkungen sowie Behandlung von:
Glucose Transporter Deffizienz,
Schädel Hirn Trauma I., II. und III. Grades,
Vitamin B6 Mangel,
Glucoseentgleisungen,
Hirnfehlbildungen etc...............
Nur um einige weinige Erkrankungen zu erwähnen, die eine Epilepsie hervorrufen können.
Es wurden und werden für jedes Krankheitsbild spezielle und effektive Medikamte entwickelt.
In diesem Sinne sollte der Behandlungsweg jedem Einzelnen überlassen sein.
Zum anderen ist der Wissenstand diesbezüglich von den Anderen und mir mit Sicherheit wesentlich höher als von bestimmten "Magnesium - Freaks".
Damit sollte und dürfte Deine Nachfrage ausreichend beantwortet sein.
